ULFA (Independent) extends support to South Asian Games

Guwahati : Even as the Government of India has earmarked Rs 60 to facilitate holding of the 12th South Asian Games (SAG) in Guwahati and Shillong under tight security, the banned ULFA (Independent) on Monday extended its support for smooth holding of the event in the spirit of the sports.
The ULFA (Independent) has welcome the sportsmen from South Asian nations coming to participate in the 12th South Asian Games (SAG) that is being held in Guwahati (Assam) and Shillong (Meghalaya) from February 5 next.
In a statement e-mailed to the media here, ULFA (I) chairman Abhijit Asom hoped that the mega sporting event would be a smooth sailing and leave lasting fond memories of this picturesque region and its warm people in the minds of those who will come to participate in the Games from the neighbouring countries.
The ULFA (I) leader stated that though the SAG is being hosted by its adversary, The Government of India, it would extend its total support in the true spirit of sportsmanship to make the event joyful and a very successful one which will make the region and its people proud.
The organisers of the 12th South Asian Games has earmarked about Rs 60 crore for making tight security arrangement for the event as well for the participants and delegates from all the participating nations in view of presence of several militant groups in the region.
Assuring support for holding the event smoothly, the ULFA(I) chairman stated, “The indigenous generosity and the hospitality of our people are virtues from mythical writings to contemporary travelers.
We must not allow our virtues to be marred by the bitterness of our rights violations by the hosting nation and need to receive our guests with respect, warmth and our traditional way with a warm heart and a smile.”
“Welcoming everyone taking part in the maiden SAG in the Western South East Asian (WeSEA) region I greet you all with warmth and hope that you will have a wonderful experience coming to know our region and enjoy all the festivities which are al unique and the experience will be a memento you will cherish,” the ULFA (I) leader said.
