NONGSTOIN: A privately funded butchery was on Wednesday inaugurated at Nongstoin. The butchery, constructed with funds provided by the family of Brisinola Lyngkhoi of Mawkawah village and with the initiative of the Nongstoin Syiemship, was inaugurated by West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner S. Kharlyngdoh in the presence of members of the Butchers’ Association of Nongstoin. The Association expressed gratitude to the office of the Syiem of Nongstoin and Brisinola Lyngkhoi and her family for the initiative, which they said will be beneficial for the general public of Nongstoin.
The Association also lamented that the State government had, for long, ignored the threat to public health in the absence of a proper slaughter house or shed at Nongstoin.
The deputy commissioner also thanked the Lyngkhoi family for their concern about the immediate needs of the people especially the need for hygienic food.
Incidentally, despite being inaugurated the slaughter shed did not become functional in the absence of electricity supply.
Asserting that the district administration would do its best to arrange for power supply at the earliest, the deputy commissioner urged the Butchers’ Association to manage on a temporary basis.
