JOWAI: A consortium of pressure groups from Jaintia Hills including the JSU, KSU-JHDU, HNPF-JHC, MPUF, RJYF, JSM, JNU, WJNC, CRJM, JYF and others have resolved to stage a black flag march in Jowai on Friday to protest the State government’s inaction with regards to their demands for transfers of West Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner Arun Kumar Kembhavi and Additional Superintendent of Police C. Syrti and also non fulfillment of the demands made by the Kiang Nangbah Government College Students’ Union.
The demand for the transfers of the district head and the senior police officer comes in the wake of allegations by the pressure groups that they had issued orders to lathi charge and fire tear gas shells on agitating students of Kiang Nangbah Government College, last year.
According to a release by the pressure groups, the black flag march will begin at 11 AM on Friday from Lad-Nartiang (near Kiang Nangbah Government College) and move to Jrisalein Playground.
The pressure groups have sought the cooperation of the headmen, parents, students, citizens and other pressure groups active in Jaintia Hills.
