JOWAI: Khliehriat Police on Wednesday arrested a person identified as Michael Dkhar, a resident of Lad Sutnga in East Jaintia Hills, on charge of raping and murdering a three-year-old girl on Tuesday.
Following through interrogation, the accused confessed his involvement in the heinous crime.
According to Khliehriat Police, the minor’s body was recovered from an under-construction two-storied building at 1 Kilo, between Lad Sutnga and Sutnga village.
The accused knew the minor girl and her family and taking advantage of the same, he coerced the girl and took her to the under-construction building which was fenced from all sides and raped her.
He later strangulated the girl leading to her death.
According to police, the girl had been brutally raped before her death. Sources disclosed that the private parts of the minor had been critically injured before her death.
Khliehriat Police have registered a case against the accused under Section 302 for murder and Section 6 of the POCSO Act.
