SHILLONG: The UDP Youth Wing on Thursday claimed that the MeECL has admitted that they did not follow the State Reservation Policy while conducting recruitment to the post of Assistant Engineer (Electronics) in the Corporation.
UDP Youth Wing president Hamlet Dohling claimed that they had recently met MeECL Joint Secretary D. Warjri who admitted that the MeECL did not follow the Reservation Policy and assured that no such thing will be repeated in future.
Dohling also informed that MeECL has already selected four ST candidates from Meghalaya for the posts of Assistant Engineer (Electronics) and Junior Engineer (Civil), while re-advertisement would be called to fill up the two remaining posts of Assistant Engineer (Electronics).
It may be reminded that MeECL had published an advertisement on October 20 last year inviting applications to fill four posts of Assistant Engineers (Electronics), two posts of Junior Engineers (Civil) and twelve posts of Junior Engineers (Electrical/Mechanical).
The vacancies were to be filled as per the Reservation Policy of the State government.
Following the written examination, the result was declared on December 9, 2015 but the candidates were shocked as to the manner in which the MeECL had selected the candidates, especially for the post of Assistant Engineer (Electronics).
The affected candidates had complained that out of seven candidates who had passed the written test, only two were selected from among the ST candidates.
The State Reservation Policy states that where the number of vacancies is nine or less “the same shall be treated as reserved vacancies in favour of the protected communities”.
