Teak smugglers escape arrest bid in SGH

SHILLONG: A group of 7-8 unidentified miscreants, who were involved in illegally transporting teak to Simsang river, managed to escape after Forest department personnel intercepted them at Rewak Forest in South Garo Hills.
According to police, on February 3 around 2 PM, during patrolling at Rewak Forest, Forest department personnel intercepted some unidentified miscreants while they were illegally transporting teak to Simsang.
However, the miscreants managed to escape, leaving behind one loaded country made gun.
An FIR in this regard has been lodged by S.B. Marak, Range Forest Officer, Southern Range, Baghmara.
