NPP calls for agitation from March 1

Conrad’s nomination

SHILLONG: The National People’s Party (NPP) comprising East, West, North, South and South West Garo Hills districts of Meghalaya met on Tuesday at Tura,  and reviewed the situation regarding the affairs of GHADC which is unable to appoint the nominated member, and called for party workers to get ready for agitation from March 1.
In view of the delay to recommend the name of  Conrad K Sangma, former Finance Minister to the District Council under Para 6 (A) of the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution of India, the proposal was sent on November 2 last to the Government and NPP alleged that the file is still lying with the Chief Minister in his official residence.
The party has urged the Governor and the Union Government to intervene, while the party decided to send a high powered delegation to meet the Governor and the Union Home Minister.
The General Elections to Garo Hills Autonomous District Council was held on October 12 last.
