SHILLONG: The attempt on the part of the suspected GNLA-ULFA combine to attack the police personnel after the ongoing church function (ABDK SOBHA) in Resubelpara, North Garo Hills was foiled, following the recovery of IEDs and arrest of a person by a joint team of both Assam and Meghalaya police from Goalpara on Wednesday evening.
Police sources said that GNLA area commander Philiport D Shira and  Deputy  Deputy C-in-C  of ULFA  Drishti Rajakhowa had a plan to target both Meghalaya  and Assam Police personnel by placing powerful remote controlled IEDs in three junctions between Resubelpara and Krishnai on January 26 and also after the church function.
Police came to know about this development at around   12.30 pm on Wednesday when one Pintu Ch Marak, a former ANVC member, who later joined GNLA under Philiport, surrendered before the SP, North Garo Hills without arms.
Based on the revelation of the cadre, one Malsing R Marak was arrested on the outskirts of  Resubelpara and three remote controlled IEDs and gelatins sticks  were recovered from  a house  at  Kalaring village adjacent to the forest area of  Dorenkitip in Assam at around 7:30 pm.
Later, all the IEDs were defused by a bomb disposal team of Meghalaya Police.
