India start well in taekwondo

Bag Gold, Silver and a Bronze

SHILLONG: India’s taekwondo campaign at the 12th South Asian Games started on a bright note with P Anand bagging a gold medal in the 87 kg men’s final at the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) indoor stadium here on Saturday. Anand beat Afghanistan’s R Husseini.
India, however, had to be contended with silver in the male 54 kg category with the host nation’s Abrar Khan going down to Afghanistan’s Mohsen Razaei in the final.
In the female 46 kg category, Pakistan’s Yasmeen M Khan defeated Nepal’s Rejina Karki to walk away with the Gold.
In the male 68 kg Category, Afghanistan’s Rohullah Nikpa defeated Pakistan’s Naveed Khan with a Technical Knockout (TKO) to clinch the gold medal, while India’s Naveen and Sri Lanka’s PS Hettilarachi got the bronze medals.
By the end of the day India had earned one gold, one silver and a bronze medal.
