City musician launches maiden Bengali folk songs album

SHILLONG: Shillong has always inspired poets, litterateur, authors, musicians and rests from the creative world over. This is what is seen exactly in case of a budding artist from the city.
Samujjwal Dey, a city based upcoming lyricist, music composer and vocal artist, has brought out his maiden audio album on modern Bengali folk songs titled Chitto Jare Dhore… The lyrics, music composition and vocals (male) in the six songs of the CD are all his creation whereas the female voice is of Anamica Das, a distinguished vocal artist and music teacher from the city.
Inspired by modern Bengali songs, traditional folksongs and classical music, Samujjwal, in this promising attempt brought some new taste in the arena of folksongs as he wrote the lyrics and music composition keeping in mind the traditional folksongs, modern songs and classical music.
Speaking to The Shillong Times, Samujjwal said that the objective behind bringing out the album were to narrate the emotions, sorrows, joys, hopes and despairs of village folks of our country to the music lovers and to bring harmony among village folks of different communities though music. “Bengali folk songs are appealing to the music lovers throughout the world. They are known for their lyrics, composition, instrumental music and vocals,” he said while dedicating his album to the village folks of Meghalaya and to the music lovers of Shillong. His father, Prof (Dr) Sudip Dey is a Scientific Officer (SEM) at Sophisticated Analytical Instrument Facility (SAIF), NEHU, Shillong.
The instrumental music of the album is arranged by Roumyajit Bhattacharjee, a renowned music arranger and keyboardist of Shillong whereas Bhola Shankar Shil, a famous artist and Tabla teacher from the city, played this percussion instrument. Hemant Tamang and Rajesh Gurung contributed with their guitar and octopad, respectively. The recording was done this January at Overbel Roca Studio, Shillong under the supervision of Raphael Cunville.
