SHILLONG: With cases of petrol bomb attacks and pelting of stones on people manning the toll plaza on the Umiam-Jorabat Expressway at 20mer in Ri Bhoi, the National Highway Authority of India has sought deployment of security forces at the toll gate.
The toll plaza which started functioning from Thursday is being maintained by Sahakar Global Limited, a private firm from Mumbai.
The project director of National Highway Authority of India, which is implementing the Umiam-Jorabat Expressway project, on Friday met the State chief secretary and demanded security at the toll plaza  at 20mer on NH 6 in Ri Bhoi.
The NHAI official apprised the chief secretary of the instances of hurling of petrol bombs and pelting of stones on the staff deployed on duty at the toll plaza.
Earlier the KSU and the FKJGP have raised objection to the collection of toll for the Expressway. However, the KSU withdrew their opposition to the functioning of the toll plaza after the NHAI agreed to fulfill their demands.
