SHILLONG: The harrasment met to commoners by village headmen seem to be on rise in the State.

In a bizarre incident the headman who is also the Sordar of Sangshnong area under Mairang sub Division has allegedly built a cage to ostracize people.

In a statement issued here on Friday, CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing said the Sordar locks up people in the cage to ostracize them.

In another recent case of ostracization a 70-year-old man was victimised when he objected to the headman’s decision of allegedly encouraging gambling and drinking in the name of a fete.

“ The permission for holding fetes is specific that there should be no gambling and drinking but this headman is violating all that and right under the nose of the OC Mairang,” said Kharshiing.
