Kohima: Naga Students Federation (NSF) has threatened to impose indefinite ‘ban’ on the movement of vehicles owned by Manipuris in Naga inhabited areas from tomorrow morning if their demands are not met by midnight tonight by the Manipur government.  NSFpresident Subenthung Kithan and general secretary Boveio Poukai Duo said in a release today that student body in a memorandum to the Manipur government on February 16 had demanded assurance of safety and security to the Nagas and Naga vehicles in and around the valley areas of Manipur State.
The demand follows the alleged harassment of a NSF team in the hands of Manipur police commandos at Mantripukri in Imphal district on their way to Ukhrul on February 14, they said and claimed the team had also been verbally abused.
The NSF also demanded termination of the service of the duty officer in-charge and suspension of all Manipur police personnel allegedly involved in the incident.
They said the decision on the indefinite ban was taken during an emergency meeting of the student body’s Presidential Council on Monday.
The meeting, they said, resolved that if the Manipur government fails to comply with the NSF’s demands by midnight of Tuesday it would impose indefinite ban on the movement of all vehicles owned by Meiteis or Manipuris in the Naga inhabited areas from 6 am on Wednesday.
It also advised all Naga vehicles to be cautious while plying in any area dominated by Meiteis or Manipuris. (PTI)
