SHILLONG: With an aim to facilitate free trade and look for viable alternatives to energy resources, the India-Canada Roundtable on Clean Technology in the North Eastern Region of India was held here on Saturday.
The concept of clean energy was the prime focus of discussion in the meet as officials gave presentations on non-renewable sources of energy generated by solar, wind, water energy etc.
Louis-Philippe Forget, Director, Consulate General of Canada, pointed out that 98 per cent of all electricity produced in Quebec in Canada comes from hydraulic sources and meets nearly half of the city’s entire energy needs.
He further added that the city in Canada has the largest hydroelectric power grid in North America.
During the discussion it was also informed that the data related to renewable energy sources for the North Eastern Region is not very encouraging for setting up large scale projects unless (Contd on P-10)
