SSA teachers slam govt

SHILLONG: The Meghalaya SSA Schools Association (MSSASA) has slammed the state government for its alleged apathy towards the aggrieved SSA teachers whose demands remained unfulfilled till date.
While addressing a meeting of the MSSASA at the Khasi National Dorbar Hall on Saturday, president of the association, Manbhabok Kharraswai said that a memorandum was submitted to Education Minister RC Laloo on February 2 wherein the State Government was served a March 2 ultimatum to meet the demand of the SSA teachers.
The meeting was attended by over 1500 SSA teachers from East Khasi Hills and Ri Bhoi.
Some of the demands include the implementation of rules and regulations of the SSA and RTE Act, 2009 and transfer of several posts of the SSA teachers (primary and upper primary) from the State Implementation Society of SSA State Education Authority Meghalaya (SSA-SEMAM) to the Directorate of School Contd on P-10)

A substantial salary hike– from Rs 9,200 per month to Rs 30,000 per month for primary teachers and from Rs 9,900 per month to Rs 35,000 per month for upper primary teachers– was also demanded.
Apart from the above demand, the association also sought the regularization of services of the SSA teachers.
Kharkamni added that a copy of the memorandum has been submitted to Union HRD Minister, Smriti Irani.
The association informed that given the urgency of the situation, they might approach the High Court and have urged the MLAs to address the problem during the upcoming Budget Session.
