SHILLONG: The final stage of work on the pivotal Shillong-Nongstoin-Tura road has been hampered due to the all-too-familiar problem of land acquisition.
State PWD Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar on Sunday said around 13-14 km of the road was yet to be constructed. Land acquisition hurdles have affected construction of the road between Upper Shillong and Sohiong.
He, however, said the East Khasi Hills deputy commissioner has assured him that the land acquisition   process would be completed by March. The minister added that the new deadline for the project can be fixed only after the remaining land is handed over to the implementing agency.
Dhar was all praise for the land owners who gave their land for the 264.3 km Shillong-Nongstoin-Tura road that will be a vital link between Khasi and Garo Hills.
The project is being implemented by Hyderabad-based M/S BSC-C &C (JV).
