SHILLONG: The urban areas are turning vulnerable to tuberculosis with a few cases of death reported recently due to the spread of disease.
A few days ago, three people lost their lives in an area under Laitumkhrah constituency.
The Urban and Municipal affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh on Tuesday confirmed the deaths due to tuberculosis and added that the health department should take immediate steps to contain the disease.
Concerned over the issue, Lyngdoh has decided to take up the matter with Health Minister AL Hek.
“The matter is serious. If one urban area is affected, this may  be the trend in other parts of the city”, she said.
The Minister revealed that the majority of the people affected do not want to report the matter since they consider it as a taboo to reveal the disease to anyone. The Health department should create awareness so that people can report the cases so that there will be early cure, she added.
