SHILLONG: Grade III and Grade IV employees of PWD in Khasi and Jaintia Hills have urged the State Government to reinstate their service after it was terminated without prior notice to the concerned employees.
The All Meghalaya Officiating Employees PWD Roads and Building Association during a meeting held on February 2 resolved to persuade the matter with Government to address their plight.
Addressing media persons on Wednesday, David Rapmai, the general secretary of the association said, “We work on extension notifications from the office, the extension order can be for 1 month, 2 months or until further notice.”
“Since November we did not get any order and from December we were unemployed.”
He further added, “We met the Chief Engineer, Chief Secretary and Under Secretary PWD to apprise them but to no avail as the only reply that comes from them is that it is the Government’s order.”
Narrating the struggles of the employees, he said that they have to send their children to morning/evening schools, or village schools and the harshest is to stop their education questioning as to where their future will lead if their concerns are not addressed at the earliest.
“We are struggling to survive and it is not easy to make ends meet, and despite complaints there is no sign of any action” Rapmai said.
