SHILLONG: Opposition leader Donkupar Roy on Wednesday asked the State government to identify the sources of financing and funding to the militants in the State especially in Garo Hills to contain militancy even as he advocated unconditional talks with the militant outfits in the State. Taking part in the discussion on the Governor’s address, Roy said first of all the government should find the source of funding to the militant groups which can check the growth of militancy in Garo Hills.Referring to the stand of the government in asking the militants to shun violence before coming forward for talks, Roy observed that the government should not set any condition to hold talks.”Let the militants come forward for talks, why the government should insist on conditions?” he asked.”We are suffering due to militancy and not the Centre which is putting a rider of taking its permission to hold talks with banned outfits,” Roy said, adding that the State government should go ahead with holding talks with the militants. He also wanted the State government to adopt ways and means to adopt better way of intelligence gathering. The Opposition Leader also added that since the militants are taking shelter in Bangladesh, the State government should depute people in that country to track the activities of militants there. “There is also a need to stop new recruitments to various militant groups with the support of all sections of people,” he added.Roy further suggested that the government should recruit more youths from the militancy infested areas to the police force to neutralize militancy.
