SHILLONG: The National People’s Party (NPP) on Monday appealed political parties in the State not to put up candidates for the Tura Parliamentary Constituency by-election, as and when it is held, as a mark of respect to late Purno A Sangma who represented the constituency.
While thanking the chief minister, cabinet ministers, political and religious leaders and people from all walks of life for paying rich tributes to the former Lok Sabha speaker, NPP’s state unit president, WR Kharlukhi said the party will also urge the Congress to consider against fielding ay candidate for the by-poll.
Reacting to a query, he said that the party is yet to decide on its candidate for the by-poll as it is still mourning the loss of its great leader PA Sangma.
Meanwhile, the party slammed the Congress for nominating Selma D Shira as MDC in the GHADC.
“The move is a political one aimed at toppling the NPP-led EC in GHADC. It is against the mandate of the people,” he said.
