SHILLONG: HSPDP legislator K.P. Pangniang has urged the State government to upgrade Rambrai-Jyrngam into a C&RD block on a priority basis.
Participating in the general discussion on the Budget, Pangniang said the government should give special attention to his constituency which is the most backward in the State.
He said that only 25 km of road in his constituency is accessible and added that 75 per cent of the area in his constituency was not covered by any mobile network.
Earlier in the day, he requested the State government to extend scholarships and stipend to students hailing from the inter-state border areas apart from the notified international border areas. He also asked the government to allocate more funds for the border areas.
Suggestion for new MeECL CMD
Jemino Mawthoh (UDP) said the norm of the chief secretary holding the post of MeECL chief should be done away with and a new CMD should be appointed for MeECL to improve its efficiency.
He also stressed on the need to find a solution to the tussle between the government and district councils.
Better quality of roads and improvement in the field of education were other issues highlighted by the legislator. The discussion, however, remained inconclusive.
