Govt notifies Marriage Act

SHILLONG: The state government on Wednesday said that it had already notified the Meghalaya Compulsory Registration of Marriage Act, 2012.
Reacting to the media reports in connection with the proposed demonstration of the president of Mait Shaphrang Movement as a mark of protest against the State Government’s failure to frame the requisite Rules for implementation of the Meghalaya Compulsory Registration of Marriage Act, 2012, the state government said the rules were framed in 2015.
“The Meghalaya Compulsory Registration of Marriage Rules, 2015 was notified vide No. ERTS(R) 7/2011/366 dt. 05.10.2015 and published in the Official ( Gazette on 05.10.2015”, an official statement said.  Pursuant to this, Registrars of Marriage have also been duly appointed and notified for East and West Khasi Hills districts, East and West Jaintia Hills districts and Mairang and Sohra Civil Sub-Divisions.
Registrars of marriage for the remaining districts and sub-divisions are also being notified in due course, the state added.
