Itanagar: The Nyishi Elite Society and the All Nyishi Students’ Union on Sunday vehemently opposed the proposed great Nyishi procession cum referendum rally by the Nyishi Consultative Committee on October 11 at Indira Gandhi Park here.

Terming it as ridiculous and against the dignity, morality, unity and integrity of the Nyishi community as a whole, the NES president Bengia Tolum and ANSU president Sikka Gapak told the media here the government had repeatedly humiliated the Nyishis instead of understanding the pulse of the people of Arunachal Pradesh and attending to their demands.

Describing the government-sponsored great Nyishi procession cum referendum rally for communal harmony, peaceful co-existence amongst other tribes as adding salt to the injury, the NES and ANSU presidents appealed to the leaders of the Nyishi community not to connive with the government overlooking the sentiments of the Nyishis.

Terming the Nyishi community as large-hearted and accommodative, the leaders reminded that Nyishis were patriotic and symbol of pan-Arunachal.

Terming the government-sponsored rally on October 11 as unauthorised, the NES and ANSU appealed to one and all, irrespective of caste, creed and community not to attend the same and declared the organisers of the referendum rally as anti-Nyishi activists. (UNI)
