Five boys crushed to death by train

CHAPRA(Bihar):Five teen aged boys were today mowed down by a train near Goldenganj station under Sonepur-Chapra section of the East-Central Railway (ECR), a GRP officer said.The boys, hailing from Mubarakpur village in Bihar’s Saran district, were crushed to death by the Howrah-Kathgodam Bagh Express when they were trying to cross over to the other side of the railway track at about 1.30 pm, Government Railway Police (GRP) Inspector M P Singh said. Two of the victims were identified as Jeetu Kumar (14) and Vikas Kumar (14), Singh said, adding that efforts were on to ascertain the identity of remaining three. (PTI)

 Four Gujarat cops held for negligence

UDAIPUR:Four Gujarat policemen were arrested here Sunday for letting a witness to Sohrabuddin Sheikh’s killing escape, an official said.Sub-inspector M.S. Gohil, Head Constable L. Ambalal and constables Ranchhod Jinabhai and Vijay Baburao were charged with criminal negligence for allowing Sylvester Daniel Christian to escape, police told IANS.The policemen had come here from Vadodara for a court hearing Friday. The Udaipur police claimed the policemen illegally took Sylvester to his house in Bhupalpura area of the town, some 400 km from Jaipur.Sylvester was arrested almost 26 hours later. The police seized a pistol and four cartridges from him when he was roaming near the house of an aunt.Sylvester told police that he escaped to Ajmer and got hold of a gun. But police are sceptical about his claims.”He will be produced in a court. His interrogation is on,” an officer said.(IANS)

 Rahul visits violence-hit areas

JAIPUR:Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi Sunday paid a surprise visit to Rajasthan’s Bharatpur district, where communal violence claimed 10 lives and left about 21 injured last month, party sources said.Gandhi, accompanied by Union Minister of State of Home Affairs Jitendra Singh, met the families of some of the men who were killed in the violence.”He visited Gopalgarh where violence had taken place and four nearby villages including Pitholi, Parsoli and Maliga,” a district administration officer told IANS.The Congress party’s state unit, police and district administration officers were kept out of the loop and were completely unaware of Gandhi’s visit.”He arrived in Gopalgarh by road through Haryana border around 9 a.m. He remained here for about two hours,” said the officer.(IANS)

 ‘Rural development works to come under ambit of CAG’

RANCHI: Union rural development minister Jairam Ramesh has said that expenditure on rural development works would soon come under the ambit of Comptroller and Auditor General.”Very soon we are meeting with the CAG to make an ‘understanding’ to bring expenditure of all rural works across the country under CAG’s (domain),” Ramesh told reporters here on Sunday.There would be a special Accountant General for every state which would audit the expenditure being incurred on rural development works.(PTI)
