Rape and murder of Upper Shillong girl condemned

SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Pradesh Mahila Congress (MPMC) has condemned the brutal and inhuman rape and murder of a 19-year-old girl whose body was recovered from 4 1/2 Mile, Upper Shillong, on Thursday night. The MPMC condoled the death and shared in the loss and grief of the family members of the victim.
The president along with the MPMC members met the mother and brother of the victim to express their condolences personally and to ensure that justice would be meted out to the bereaved family and the criminals should be punished as per law.
The Synjuk ki Seng Samla Shnong (SSSS) also expressed pain and sadness at the unfortunate occurrence and strongly condemned the inhuman act committed at Fourth and half mile where an innocent girl was brutally killed and raped. It said in a release that atrocities against women are going on unabated in the State but this act was the most heinous of all. SSSS appealed for a befitting penalty to the culprit. It also urged the concerned authority to take note of their incompetency to deal with such cases. SSSS also paid condolences to the bereaved family.
The chairperson of State commission for protection of child rights SCPCR), M Kharkongor also condemned the gruesome crime committed upon an adolescent girl of Sawmer Shiteng and offered her condolences to the family.
SCPCR also urged the investigation agency to conduct the investigation speedily and file the charge-sheet at the earliest so as to deter the accused person from being granted bail in view of the gruesome nature of offence. The Civil Society Women’s Organization (CSWO), while condemning the brutal rape and murder of the 19 year old girl at Upper Shillong, has urged the state government to provide a compensation of Rs 3 lakh together with additional expenses for the funeral conducted for the victim as per  the Meghalaya Victim Compensation Scheme, 2014, ,”
The CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing said that there should be speedy investigation and trial of the case even as she lamented that there are many pending cases of crimes against women and children which await speedy disposal.
