SHILLONG: Deputy Chief Minister in charge of Education, R.C. Laloo, on Monday asserted that department will take up the matter of sudden closure of Assam Rifles Public School with the management of the school besides examining the issue within the framework of rules and regulations to address the concerns of parents and students.
Replying to a Zero Hour Notice tabled by UDP’s Jemino Mawthoh on the move to close down the Assam Rifles Public School (ARPS) at Laitkor, the minister asserted that the department, through the Directorate of School Education & Literacy, has sought a detailed report from the chairman of the School Management Committee.
According to Laloo, all necessary steps are being taken by the School Management Committee and assistance is being provided to parents to ensure that the students are admitted in other Assam Rifles Schools and other schools in Shillong as per their desire.
He, however, informed that the issues and internal problems of the school were not intimated to the Department of Education and only recently a representative of the school met senior officials for discussion but no detailed written report has been submitted so far on the closure of the school.
“There is no commitment that the government will take over the school at any juncture,” Laloo clarified.
Earlier while moving the Zero Hour Notice, Mawthoh had said that the decision to close down the school   is arbitrary and will affect the students.
He also said that it is high time for the State government to intervene into the matter.
