Four diagnostic centres for PWDs operating in State

SHILLONG: Social Welfare Minister Deborah Marak on Monday informed that the Central government has sanctioned four early diagnostic and intervention centres in the State for persons with disabilities.
In reply to a question by Embhahlang Syiemlieh (UDP), the minister that the centres were set up in the civil hospitals at Shillong, Jowai, Nongstoin and Tura.
The proposed expenditure in running the centres is around Rs 66.20 lakh.
To a supplementary question regarding the benefits being provided to the students, the minister said that scholarships, hearing aids, white canes, uniforms and book grants among others in the form of a package is being provided to the students with disabilities.
She, however, added that the facilities are not provided to the university students.
