SHILLONG: A Single Bench of the High Court of Meghalaya on Tuesday issued notices to the Assam Rifles Public School and the School Managing Committee to file counter affidavits to reply to the contention raised by the staff of ARPS.
Meanwhile, a delegation of NGOs from Meghalaya and the neighbouring states met Chief Secretary K.S. Kropha on Tuesday to apprise him of the abrupt closure of Assam Rifles Public School (ARPS) Laitkor.
Members of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union Shillong Unit, Nagaland Students’ Union Shillong Unit and Mizoram Students’ Union Shillong Unit, expressed concern that the studies of the children will be affected if the school shuts down.
Kropha assured the delegation that the State government will write to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs to resolve the problem.
KSU Education Cell chairman Donald V Thabah, while speaking to reporters, said, “There are over 500 students including around 100 students from Khasi and Jaintia Hills studying in the school along with over 100 BPL students.”
Referring to the direction of the School to the parents to collect the Transfer Certificate before March 31, 2016, Thabah claimed that most of the parents did not get the official notice from the school which is not acceptable.
