SHILONG: The Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Bill, 2016, which was introduced in the State Assembly on March 18, is likely to be referred to a Select Committee following a request from the Opposition.
Indicating this here on Tuesday, the leader of the Opposition Donkupar Roy said, “We have proposed amendment to the Bill.”
The Bill will be referred to a select committee after discussion on Wednesday.
However, the Opposition will allow the Meghalaya (Benami Transactions Prohibition) Amendment Bill, 2016 to be passed, Roy said.
Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma told newsmen that opposition wanted the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Bill to be referred to a select committee of the Assembly.
The Chief Minister indicated that the Government was open to suggestions on the Bill.
