Union HRD Min lays base for Central Institute of Hindi

SHILLONG: Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani on Tuesday said that the Central Institute of Hindi will publish dictionaries from Hindi to Garo and Jaintia languages respectively in the next two months.
Addressing the gathering after laying the foundation of the regional centre of Central Institute of Hindi at Mawdiandiang, the Union Minister also asked Meghalaya Education Minister RC Laloo to support the centre in starting the B Ed course in Hindi.
Stating that the Centre plans to bring out dictionaries on 50 dialects of North East region, Irani said that language connects people.
Earlier, while speaking at the function, Education Minister RC Laloo rued that he did not learn Hindi. He further said that importance was not given to Hindi earlier but now people have started learning the language in Meghalaya.
Meanwhile, West Shillong MLA Paul Lyngdoh said that the indigenous people of Meghalaya should learn Hindi and accordingly, non indigenous people should learn Khasi to foster national integration.
“Hindi is not just a national language but it has international dimension which connects with the rest of the world,” he said.
It may be mentioned that the three and half acres of land was provided to the Central Institute of Hindi by the State Government in the year 2009.
