ARPS not to be closed down, High Court told

SHILLONG: The counsel of the Union Government has made a submission before the High Court of Meghalaya that the Assam Rifles Public School (ARPS) shall not be closed down by the authorities with effect from April 1, 2016, as had been decided earlier.
The High Court on Thursday observed that “From the minutes of the meeting said to have been held on Thursday with the parents and children, it appears that the respondents (ARPS) have conferred with the parents and children and indicated the efforts being made; and thereafter, the option forms were given to the parents/ children to exercise their option, if they would be agreeable to fees hike or not.”
The Court also made clear that pendency of this petition shall otherwise, would not be of any impediment for any negotiated settlement between the parties; but any such settlement shall not be given effective to without specific orders of this Court.
Counsel for the respondents indicated that some of the parents/guardians might be interested in withdrawing their children/wards from the school and may ask for Transfer Certificate.
“This submission has only been taken note of but no order in this regard is required from the Court; and it is left open for the authorities concerned to take appropriate steps in accordance with law in relation to any proposal for withdrawal from or any induction in the school. The matter be listed after two weeks,” the order said.
