Cattle smuggler’s arrest reveals wider network in border areas

SHILLONG: With the arrest of a cattle smuggler, the BSF has received more information about the network of smugglers in the border areas.
A statement issued by the BSF said that the troops deployed at Baldamgiri in South West Garo Hills apprehended an Indian national Jakir Miya (35), resident of Fakiraghat under Mankachar- Mahendraganj border along with a truck laden with 15 cattle.
The apprehended person revealed that the cattle were brought from Garobadha Bazar in Tura and were supposed to be handed over to one Nurul Sangma (40) at Mirngipara.
Further, the duo had their plans for taking these cattle in a truck for handing them over to Bangladeshi cattle smugglers Zamiruddin and Lalchand, both from Kurigram district of Bangladesh.
While BSF troops caught hold Jakir Miya with the cattle, Nurul Sangma managed to flee from the site.
After questing, it was revealed that the duo worked only as carrier and earned Rs 1,000 as haulage.
The main kingpin was revealed to be one Amirul Islam (50) of Dhubri district of Assam who plays a vital role in smuggling of cattle from the hinterland in India to Bangladesh with the help of these carriers.
