SHILLONG: Police on Friday arrested the East Area Commander of Garo rebel outfit — ASAK David S Sangma alias Rikai following a raid on his hideout near Dakopgre, outskirts of Tura town.
Police seized one 9mm pistol, seven rounds of ammunition, and as many as 18 SIM cards, all supplied from Assam via Rajabala.
Garo Hills police wanted Rikai several abductions cases,extortions and other heinous crimes committed by him.
Police said that after he circulated demand notes in Williamnagar forest area recently, he came to Tura via Baghmara and was secretly hiding in a house at Dakopgre.
ASAK was formed by Reading T Sangma, the former Finance Secretary of GNLA for the refusal on the part of GNLA leader Sohan D Shira to part with the loot, police said.
According to police, Reading was involved in the killing of central intelligence official on October 24,2015 at Panda Reserve Forest, Baghmara.
