Guwahati: A BJP-led government in Assam is essential for sealing of the porous India-Bangladesh border  and stopping infiltration from the neighbouring country once and for all, according to the BJP  president Amit Shah.
Talking to the media here on Saturday, two days before the second and the last phase of polling in  Assam, Shah said, “If the BJP-led alliance is voted to power in Assam, the Bangladeshi infiltration  issue once and for all. He said the land-boundary agreement with Bangladesh had helped in demarcating the international  boundary, which in turn would help in sealing the porous border. He claimed it an achievement of the  BJP-led NDA government in the Centre that the land boundary pact with Bangladesh was ratified within one-and-half-year of assuming power.
“Once the BJP-led government is put in place in Assam after the polls, the Centre and state governments can work together to resolve the infiltration issue,” he added.
On the matter of deportation of detected Bangladeshis, Shah said, “It is a matter on which the governments of Assam, India and Bangladesh have to work together.”
The BJP national president further said the work of updating the National Register of Citizens will be pursued in a time-bound and accelerated manner if the coalition is voted to power.
Shah added that the government will abide and implement the Assam Accord of 1985 in letter and spirit if voted to power in Assam.
He urged the people of Assam to vote for a majority government, led by the BJP, in the state so that it can pursue its welfare agenda with vigour.
He said, “This is a defining election not just for Assam but the entire North East as its result will determine (Contd on P-10)
