Himanta, Mahanta among 525 in fray

Guwahati: Fate of senior BJP leader Dr Himanta Bishwa Sarmah, AIUDF president Badruddin Ajmal, former AGP chief minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, senior Congress minister Rakibul Hussain, top-notch Bodo politician Urkhao Gwra Brahma will be decided among the total 525 candidates in the second phase of Assam Assembly election to be held in 61 Assembly constituencies on Monday.
The Election Commission office here informed that total 1,04,35,277 voters including 53,91,204 males and 50,55,051 females are expected to exercise their franchise in total 12,699 polling stations to decide the fate of 477 male candidates and 48 female candidates. Total 50,796 polling officials will be engaged to conduct the polling under tight vigil.
The Election commission has set up total 148 model polling stations across all the constituencies including highest number of 33 model polling stations in Nagaon districts.
There will be 73 polling stations which are being manned by only women polling officials and highest number of 24 such polling stations are located in Kamrup district.
In the second phase polling, 3890 polling stations have been marked sensitive and 1617 identified as hyper-sensitive.
Webcasting facility is made available for 505 polling stations while micro-observers equipped with video cameras will be deployed in 916 polling stations.
The VVPAT will be issued in 1710 polling stations in seven LACs across four districts of Kamrup (Metropolitan), Dhubri, Bongaigaon and Goalpara.
The constituencies for second phase polling are : Manchachar, Salmara South, Dhubri, Gauripur, Golokganj, Bilasipara West, Bilasipara East, Gossaigaon, Kokrajhar West, Kokrajhar East, Sidli, Bongaigaon, Bijni, Abhayapuri North, Abhayapuri South, Dudhnoi, Goalpara East, Goalpara West, Jaleswar, Sorbhog, Bhabanipur, Patacharkuchi, Barpeta, Jonia, Baghbar, Sarukhetri, Chenga, Boko, Chaygaon, Palashbari, Jalukbari, Dispur, Guwahati East, Guwahati West, Hajo, Kamalpur, Rangiya, Tamulpur, Nalbari, Barkhetri, Dharmapur, Barama, Chapaguri, Kalaigaon, Sipajhar, Mangaldai, Dalgaon, Jagiroad, Morigaon, Lahorighat, Raha, Dhing, Batadroba, Rupohihat, Nagaon, Barhampur, Samaguri, Kaliabor, Jamunamukh, Hojai and Lumding.
