SHILLONG: After internet link failure, post office customers are now hit by collapsing hardware.
Customers of Laban Post Office alleged that they were asked to return by the lady counter clerk when they went to book speed post / registered post on Friday. As per these customers, the lady clerk refused to book speed post / registered posts reasoning that the computer developed a technical snag whereas in reality they saw her trying to fix the printer with a new ribbon in hand.
When the customers revolted after being asked to leave, the clerk reasoned that the computer was not functioning.
Some of these customers even alleged that they have been facing this problem at the Laban PO for quite some days now where even the elderly citizens were asked to leave.
When this issue was taken up with the Senior Superintendent of Posts (SSP), Devendra Kumar Panda, accompanied by another senior postal official, he expressed shock over the incident and termed the postal official being “insensitive”. Panda later took up the matter with the North Shillong Postal Inspector, Desmond Nongkhlaw.
Nongkhlaw informed him that it is true that the printer is in a state of disrepair and there are three printers in Laban PO whereas none are in working condition, much to his dismay. The SSP called up the System Administrator, Debojit who informed him over phone that out of three printers only one is functioning at the Laban PO.
