Concern over decline of weavers in state

AMPATI: Sericulture and Weaving Minister Zenith Sangma on Friday inaugurated the Common Facility Centre cum Handloom Production Unit at Zikzak C and RD Block on Friday.
The Minister was accompanied by Parliamentary Secretary, Home (P), Education Winnerson D Sangma and Chairperson, Meghalaya Resource Mobilization and Employment Generation Council (MRMEGC) Dikkanchi D Shira.
Addressing the gathering, Zenith Sangma lamented the decline of weavers among the indigenous populace of Garo Hills.
He said government had sanctioned ten multi facility centres in the state with six of them in Garo Hills. These centres will act as training centres for skill upgradation and value addition, Sangma informed while urging the gathering to avail such trainings by professional instructors in the future and hone their skills for better livelihood opportunities.
MRMEGC Chairperson Dikkanchi D Shira and Parliamentary Secretary Winnerson D Sangma also spoke on the occasion.
