Admin cautions against earthquake rumours

SHILLONG: Following the earthquake which hit the city and other parts of the North Eastern states on Wednesday, people here got panicked when rumours about a massive pending earthquake to hit the region was doing the rounds in the city.
Rumour mongering has once again raised its ugly head in the capital with exaggerating stories about a possible earthquake in the region.
They even try to substantiate their claims by stating that the news of possible earthquakes has been published in different news papers here. Rumours about a pending earthquake to hit Shillong again soon had people panicked.
Speaking on the matter, East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner urged people not to believe in rumours. He also said that he will speak to the Disaster Management Authority in the state to issue appeal for not to believe in such rumours. On the other hand, a police officer said that if the   rumour is being spread with mischievous and criminal intention, action will be taken against those who spread them.
