SHILLONG: An agent of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), Mineral Transport Challan/ Royalty, Sdangyoo L. Dkhar, has alleged that numerous coal laden trucks are operating in South West Khasi Hills without valid challans thus depriving the State government of much needed revenue.
Reacting to news report that appeared in a section of the press which stated that his office in South West Khasi Hills was involved in collecting exorbitant amount of money above and over the directions of the KHADC, Dkhar said, “The presence of the office at South West Khasi Hills has caused a hurdle to the coal laden trucks illegally plying on the road, and they have falsely accused me instead.”
“I have written to the Transport department to set up a transport checkpoint at all the land custom station and at Ranikor for proper checking of documents but to no avail,” Dkhar said.
He added that he will write to the State and Central governments including the Comptroller & Auditor General (CAG) to examine the case of vehicles from outside the State operating illegally in the district and would also push for cancellation of their export license if found that they are plying illegally without registration.
