SHILLONG: The District Magistrate, East Jaintia Hills has promulgated an order under section 144 CrPC prohibiting mining of coal in the entire district until further orders by the National Green Tribunal.
The order was issued in view of the fact that mining of coal was still being carried out in the district and that there was rampant dumping of coal on the roadsides of the National Highway and PWD roads.
The magistrate also prohibited transportation of coal without payment of royalty, VAT and without production of the required documents at the notified weighbridges/checkpoints, overloading of coal beyond permissible limit (9.00 metric tonnes or 19.00 metric tonnes as per the category of the truck/vehicle notified by transport department), transportation or carrying of coal from the mines/jungles to the coal depot/stockyard, rampant dumping of coal on the road sides of the NH 44 and PWD roads.
