ISRO urged to devp warning system

SHILLONG:  Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) is urged to develop early warning system in the wake of frequent natural calamities especially in the state and the  rest of the North-East.
Additional Chief Secretary   Y. Tsering, made this request during a meet on promoting ‘Use of Space Technology Application in Governance & Development for Meghalaya’ which was  organized here on Friday.
Referring  to the calamities caused by recent hailstorms and squall the official said, “We are not able to warn people on time. ISRO can assist us by developing a system of early warning signs.” Tsering also said ISRO should study landslide problem of the region and suggest remedial measures According to Tsering,  there is a need to institutionalize the benefits of the use of space technology.
However, he said, “Technology is there but not without limitations as we need constant updating.” The scientists from North East Space Application Centre and ISRO were present on the occasion and India’s  space programme was presented during the programme.
