Seven militants give up in Garo Hills

TURA: Altogether seven cadres of two different militant groups surrendered have in Garo Hills.
Five cadres of the Liberation of A’chik Elite Force (LAEF) surrendered before North Garo Hills Police at Resubelpara on Monday.
The LAEF cadres — Jim G Momin alias Walku, Sengnang G Momin alias Nikrak, Salseng Momin alias Wanted, Sengtingberth K Sangma alias Sanggra  and Sengsil G Momin alias Dakchak, however, did not deposit any arms and ammunition at the time of surrender.
All the surrendered cadres hailed from Baringre Chibilbang Village under Rongjeng PS in East Garo Hills.
Meanwhile, two GNLA cadres surrendered before East Garo Hills Superintendent of Police at Williamnagar.
The duo  — Simple Ch Momin alias Saljepa and Clever Ch Marak alias Dompa — surrendered at Williamnagar Police Station without arms.
According to police, Clever Ch Marak alias Dompa was recruited to help Sohan in providing logistic support as well as to spy on police teams entering Durama.
Clever revealed that NSCN cadres were responsible for selling weapons to militant groups in Garo Hills and that a majority of the AK rifles, pistols and grenades of the GNLA were procured from Dimapur through NSCN cadres at rates ranging from Rs 5 to Rs 6 lakh.
He claimed that Sohan had kept a huge bulk of the weapons including AK rifles buried at Durama forest where no one except his close relatives were allowed to go. According to Clever, Sohan plans to sell these weapons to other militant groups after coming overground.
