Search for Human Rights Commission head on

SHILLONG:  With the Supreme Court fixing June 30 deadline to form the Meghalaya Human Rights Commission, the State government is planning to write to Assam Human Rights Commission Chairperson Justice (retd) Aftab Hussain Saikia to head the Meghalaya panel.
Justice (retd) Saikia will be completing his tenure shortly.
Sources said on Tuesday that recently Chief Minister Mukul Sangma chaired a meeting to finalize the formation of Meghalaya Human Rights Commission following the deadline of three months given to the state government by the Supreme Court in March this year.
Human Rights Commission consists of a Chairman and two members.
Earlier, former DGP PJP Hanaman was named as a member of the Commission.
Though  the government appointed former judge of the lower court, M.B. Challam as  another member, Challam was informed later that she would not be  eligible since she had served as the District and Sessions Judge only for four years, while the criteria is seven years.
