SHILLONG: The Khasi Students Union Bakur Dawki Unit (KSUBDU) has urged concerned authorities responsible for the implementation of National Food Security Act (NFSA) in common parlance known as ration card in Bakur (Dawki).
The organization alleged that there are anomalies regarding its implementation as the names of indigenous people are not listed whereas illegal migrants are found in the list of beneficiaries.
They claimed that most of the migrants are not permanent settlers of Bakur and do not posses any relevant documents to verify that they are part of the village as most of them are daily wage labourers.
KSU demanded for the discontinuation of the scheme and to stop the distribution of the quota of rice/sugar to the migrants. The Union wanted the govt to wait till the matter is solved. It also sought clarification from the dealer as it is alleged that he distributed 4 kg of rice per person instead of 5 kg.
