SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Border Area Development Welfare Association (MBADWA) has alleged that several border villagers were encroached by Bangladesh.
According to the Association, the Bangladesh had encroached around 200 meters inside Meghalaya.
The areas encroached are near Umpyrchin, Lahalein and Huroi in East Jaintia Hills district.
The Association took up the matter with East Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner recently seeking his intervention and to carry out spot inspection.
The president of MBADWA Lakhon Lamin pointed out that Bangladesh had crossed the existing boundary pillars of 1315, 1316, and 1317 among others without the knowledge of local villagers. The Association said it had visited several areas under Umpyrchin and found that there was encroachment into the  cultivable land across Lubha Cherra tea Garden which falls under Sylhet district.
