New Delhi: The Centre on Wednesday gave more latitude to insurgent Naga group NSCN(R) by extending the ceasefire by one more year, sources said here.
National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Reformation) or NSCN(R), is breakaway faction of banned NSCN(Khaplang), which is based in Myanmar.
NSCN(Reformation), though has not been a party to Naga peace accord signed between NSCN(IM) and the Centre last year, professes to hold its fire and maintain equal distance from those who have struck a deal with the India and the ones who continue to remain hostile like NSCN (Khaplang).
The extended ceasefire comes in effect from tomorrow and it was signed by Satyendra Garg, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, and Imlongnukshi Chang and Kavishe Sumi on behalf of NSCN(R) today. The faction has publically supported the Naga peace accord, however some of its cadre are not convinced about the intentions of the Centre and have refused to lay down arms, the sources said.
Notably, NSCN(K) had attacked the Indian army patrol on June 3 last and killed 18 troops in ambush. (UNI)
