Appeal against ‘taking bribes’ during polls

AMPATI: The Deputy Commissioner (Election), South West Garo Hills has informed the public of the district that any offer of cash, liquor, gift items or free food to the electors during election process is bribe, adding that both persons, offering and accepting such bribe, are liable for punishment with imprisonment up to one year and fine.He informed that flying squads have been formed to keep watch over such activities during the election process and Static Surveillance Teams have been set up in the police stations and police outposts within the district to assist the flying squads in enforcing the Model Code of Conduct.He has also appealed all the members of the public to inform any such incident at 03651-261206.
Meanwhile, general observer for the by-election to 2-Tura Constituency for South West Garo Hills and South Garo Hills district segments, Alka Shrivastava, arrived in Ampati on April 28.
