SHILLONG: The Sunny Indane Gas Agency (SIGA) is not only breaching cylinder supply norms, as complained by its customers to the DC (Supply) recently, but also causing undue traffic congestion in the Pohktieh area of the city.
The road that runs through Pohktieh is an important connector between the National Highway near Rani Motors and Pohkseh, Rynjah. But parking of LPG cylinder trucks of SIGA right on the road, where this agency is located, is causing an undue gridlock obstructing movement of vehicles from all the suburb localities.
Those facing traffic snarl on this snaking road observed that the problem surfaced largely due to parking of cylinder trucks on the roadside from where deliveries are made to customers.
As a result other vehicles are unable to move freely in this narrow stretch which reduces to the width of a footpath.
Many vehicle owners are also astonished by the fact that there is no sign preventing parking of vehicles or cylinder supply on this narrow road.
“While home delivery system is followed in other areas of the city, SIGA is flouting all rules,” people observed.
Presence of schools in the area meant that students were also caught in the gridlock.
Exasperated parents alleged that the SIGA has “bought the authorities” or else “how can such illegalities continue unabated.”
