Shad Suk Mynsiem concluded in Nongstoin

NONGSTOIN: Thousands of spectators witnessed the colourful traditional thanksgiving dance festival Shad Suk Mynsiem at Nongstoin on Monday. 115 maiden and 119 men from across West Khasi Hills participated in the dance.

The Shad Suk Mynsiem also known as the spring festival, organized by the Seng Khasi West Khasi Hills, concluded here with hundreds of people belonging to the Niam Khasi clad in traditional Khasi attires and kids along with their elders joining the traditional dance accompanied by the beats of drums and tangmuri to give thanks to God for all his blessings. Lavish display of gold and silver forms part of the attire with the most important jewellery being the silver crowns that adorn the heads of the damsel.

Addressing the gathering, legislator Diosstarness Jyndiang lauded the Seng Khasi West Khasi Hills for their efforts in preserving the custom and culture of the Niam Khasi in the modern world. He said that the festival also gives a message that life should be meaningful, eventful and purposeful. The Shad Suk Mynsiem ended with a big procession from New Nongstoin playground to the Seng Khasi office. Earlier in the day, the Seng Khasi WKH inaugurate their new office at New Nongstoin near Nongstoin Public School in the presence of Jyndiang and Bantei Rumnong, president of Seng Khasi from Shillong.
