Report on Syiemship to be submitted before Court

SHILLONG: The Single Bench of the High Court of Meghalaya on Monday ordered that G. Syiemiong, Joint Secretary of the Executive Committee, Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), in addition to his other duties, shall be given responsibilities of ensuring proper administration of the Syiemship by the acting Syiem of Hima Mylliem, Ricky Nelson Syiem. The Court, however, queried the appointment of Syiem as to whether there was anyone who contested along with him. The Court also questioned as to why Ricky alone was appointed and whether there was no other person in the Syiemship who could have been considered for such appointment as acting Syiem. The acting Syiem has been directed to submit a reply on or before the next date of hearing. The interim order stated that Ricky Syiem should inform the Joint Secretary of the Executive Committee of all the steps/decisions taken or sought to be taken by him for proper management of the Syiemship. The Joint Secretary shall be expected to submit the report on the administration of Syiemship to the Executive Committee, who shall, in turn, place the same before the Court on the next date. It may be noted that former Syiem of Hima Mylliem Latho Manik Syiem had prayed for interim relief with regard to the case against KHADC
